I processed an employee bonus twice in error. I had processed it during earlier pay period and forgotten i had done that and processed it another time. It was directly deposited on 11/29. what is the easiest way to rectify?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, jfarias123.

If your payroll has already been sent to Intuit, it can't be edited or deleted. Instead, you'll have an option to void the paycheck. This changes its dollar amount to zero.

You may need to make adjustments to balance your books with this process, as it doesn't stop direct deposits from processing, nor does it return any funds to you. Tax amounts collected through Automated Tax Withdrawal will apply to future payrolls.

Be sure to check your processing times and payroll service. If you're voiding a paycheck from a prior quarter or year, amendments will be required. In the event you're using a Payroll Assisted subscription, you'll need to contact our Customer Care team for assistance with voiding paychecks.

Here's how to void direct deposit paychecks:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Employees, then Edit/Void Paychecks.
  2. Change the Show paychecks through/from dates to the date of your paycheck you need to void.
  3. Press Tab on the keyboard you're using.
  4. Choose a check and click Void.
  5. Enter "YES", then select Void.
  6. Tick your agreement checkbox to agree to the terms and conditions of voiding your paycheck.
  7. Repeat each step as necessary to include all checks that need to be voided.

When you're finished voiding, you can send the voided paychecks to Intuit so our system knows they've been cancelled.

If you need any help with the accounting side of things, I'd recommend working with an accounting professional. In the event you're in need of one, there's an awesome tool on our website called Find a ProAdvisor. All ProAdvisors listed there are QuickBooks-certified and able to provide helpful insights for driving your business's success.
