Question

Employee can't open paystub emailed to them. Is the file not supported?

I have some employees who are unable to open their paystub. I don't believe it gives them the option to use their automated password as it says the file is not supported. It seems to be more of an iPhone issue but I'm not sure if it's just not supported by mobile. This results in having to send it to them 1 more time before I resort to saving their paystub separately and sending the PDF to them myself. I've emailed paystubs to my own email so I can see what it looks like and have never had an issue. What can I do or what can I instruct the employee to do so they may open the file?  The file appears as 'winmail.dat' Thank you in advance!

Hi there, @jv310. I'm here to ensure your employees can be able to see their paystubs without error. Follow along below to get this done right away.

Thanks for sharing details about your issue. Let me discuss some information about this. Having trouble viewing the pay stubs is sometimes caused by a problem on the receiving end. Some security and mail filters may tag these emails as spam and adjust accordingly.

To fix this, you can simply change the email format of your email provider. To do so, choose either HTML or plain text to avoid attaching a Winmail.dat file when you send the email. On the other hand, you'll want to use another email service to prevent any issues. For reference, feel free to check this article: Winmail.dat is attached to an email instead of a .pdf file when sent from QuickBooks through Outlook.

I also recommend advising your employee to update their Adobe Acrobat Reader to the latest version to avoid errors. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) uses this in converting pay stubs into PDFs. To know more details, check out this link: Email pay stubs from QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know how the recommendation works for you. I'd appreciate any details you can add. If you have other questions or concerns about emailing paystubs, feel free to post a reply below. I'm always here ready to lend a hand. Keep safe always and have a good one.
