Employee was paid at $27.03/hr instead of $30/hr. I need to cut him a check, but I don't know how much to take out for taxes. Please assist.

I can share some insights to ensure the taxes you take from the employee's paycheck is correct, @ldropps.

Before taking out taxes from each worker's paycheck, I suggest checking your employee's tax withholding and contacting the state tax agency to know what amount or tax rate you can set up in QuickBooks Online. This way, you can collect accurate payroll taxes in each employee's paycheck.

In addition, before submitting payroll, I suggest clicking the Preview payroll details button to check if the tax amounts are correct when running payroll. This way, if you find something that's oddly incorrect, you can click the X button from the Preview payroll details page and then select the Back button and update your federal and state taxes, contributions, and deductions accurately in QuickBooks Payroll Settings and employee's tax withholding info.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll and then select Employees.
  2. Click Run Payroll.
  3. Choose the pay schedule and then hit Continue.
  4. Select Preview payroll.
  5. Click Preview payroll details.

On the other hand, here's how to change the employee's current hourly rate:

  1. From the Preview payroll details window, click X.
  2. Click Back.
  3. From the Run Payroll window, click the employee's name.
  4. Click Edit on the Pay Types section.
  5. Change the Rate per hour field to "30".
  6. Hit Save.

You can check this article for more information about updating the state tax SUI rate, employee info, and tax withholding:

Once all is good, you'll want to submit it to cut him a check. Then run QuickBooks Online payroll reports to see prior data.

Let me know if you have other payroll run concerns to assist you more. I'm still here to help. Stay safe.
