i cannot export tax payments from quickbooks on line payroll. this issue came up a couple of months ago and i have contacted intuit every month. they do not have an answer. i am told that i need for the tax payment to be made before i export it. that makes no sense. i should be able to export a future payment so i can make sure i have available funds. anyone else having this issue?

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, jerryreis.

If you're not using a QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) payroll service and would like to do your payroll manually, you can track it in QBDT. When doing this, you'll need to calculate/enter payroll taxes and file forms yourself. There won't be an option to schedule anything, or import scheduled tax payments.

In the event you're using a Core, Premium, or Elite Payroll subscription for QuickBooks Online (QBO) without accounting turned on (also called standalone payroll), you may have another company file. This file can be used for your accounting without payroll being turned on. You can export transactions to a QBDT company file using Intuit Interchange Format (IIF).

Initially, you'll need to set up the preferences in your payroll account.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Core, Premium, or Elite payroll account.
  2. Use your Settings (⚙) icon, then access Payroll settings.
  3. From the Export section, click Edit (✎).
  4. Choose your accounting software.
  5. Hit Continue.
  6. QuickBooks will create default accounts for wages, expenses, and liabilities. Use the Edit (✎) option to modify these accounts as they appear on your chart of accounts.
  7. Select Done, then Done.

Afterwards, you can begin exporting payroll transactions.

If you're working with a QBDT payroll subscription, and want to schedule tax payments, they'll need to be set up in QBDT Payroll.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

This does not answer jerryreis' question and the question I came looking for answers too. Up until early 2023, we could export tax payments that are scheduled for future payment using the IIF format (been doing it for years).  Now we need to wait until that payment has been made before exporting.  Like jerryries, I would like to be able to export those scheduled payments at the time I schedule them rather then waiting.  Something changed in a recent update that no longer allows us to do this.  Is there a workaround? Thanks.
