filing w-2 electronically in quickboks online

using quickbooks online , payroll core, i file and pay taxes through quickbooks.

The option to file w-2 does not appear under filings in the payroll center or anywhere else that i can find.

i found the w-2's to review and print under resources in payroll center.  Where is the missing option?

Warm welcome, L858. Let me provide information about filing a W-2 tax form in QuickBooks Online. 

 

Before anything, let's check in the payroll setting to see if the automated taxes are turned on. If so, we will e-file your W-2 on your behalf.

 

  1. Hover to the Gear icon, then select Payroll Settings.
  2. From the Taxes and forms section, choose the Edit icon.
  3. Check if the Automate taxes and form were selected (If you wish to file the W2 yourself, you can choose I'll initiate payments and filings using QuickBooks.
  4. Select Save, then Done. 

 

If you select, I'll initiate payments and filings using QuickBooks; you'll see the option to file W2 under fillings in the payroll center.

I have the exact same issue as the poster.  

The option to file W-2 Copy A does not appear under Filings in the Payroll Tax Center or anywhere else that i can find.

I found the W-2's (B, C, &D) to review and print for employees under resources in payroll center. 

 

Where is the missing option to e-File from within Quickbooks?     This was not an issue in previous years and I do not have the setting to automatically file turned on - it is turned off on my account.

 

Also, I called QB support, and they claimed the option to e-file W-2 copy A would appear January 15th, but it has not yet appeared for me.

 

Please advise.

Depending on your payroll tax setup, we’ll file your W-2s automatically, or you’ll have to e-file them through QuickBooks. If you want to change these preferences, you can follow these steps:

 

  1. Go to Settings ⚙, then select Payroll Settings.
  2. From the Taxes and forms section, click Edit ✎.
  3. Review or choose one of the following:
    • If you want QuickBooks to automatically pay your taxes and file your forms, select Automate taxes and forms.
    • If you want to pay and file electronically in QuickBooks, select I’ll initiate payments and filings using QuickBooks.
  4. Select Save, then Done.

 

In addition, the option to e-file a W-2 copy A will be available on January 15th. Since this option isn't available yet on your end, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Payroll Team so they can further investigate the issue and help you file the form. Here's how to connect with them:

 

  1. Go to Help (?).
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern, then click Let's talk.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

 

Once your W-2 forms are successfully processed, you can print and send them to your employees by January 31. They can also view their W-2s online in QuickBooks Workforce.
