Using Payroll Online Core with QuickBooks submitting payroll tax returns. Stopped paying wages last month. How do I get line 17 in Part 3 of Form 941 populated?

Hello there, userkdavis.

I'm here to share more information about line 17 in the 941 forms.

Line 17 indicates that your business has closed or you stop paying wages. With that, you must file a final return. To tell the IRS that a particular Form 941 is your final return, check the box on line 17 and enter the final date you paid wages in the space provided. To do this, you'll have to manually run and print the 941 form. Then, put a check mark on Part 3, line 17 and enter the final date:

  1. Click Taxes.
  2. Choose the Payroll Tax tab.
  3. Under Forms, click the Quarterly Forms link.
  4. Choose 941.
  5. Select the period from the drop-down, then select View.
  6. Print the form.
  7. Manually check the Part 3, Line 7 and write the final date.
  8. File the form to IRS.

For additional filing requirements, including information about attaching a statement to your final return, you can check this article: If Your Business Has Closed.
