Question

How can I add non-clergy, onsite lodging to an employees pay as non-taxable without increasing their pay? It is a monthly benefit paid directly by the company.

This employee will live onsite and be available at all hours. It is an employer need and they cannot do the job without living onsite, so it is non-taxable to the employee but still needs to be reported on the W-2 as part of the employees compensation, though their paycheck should not be increased as the company is covering the cost of rent directly.

Hi anysiatbd,

Thank you for getting help with the pay setup of your employee member.

I see the importance of correctly tracking the in-kind lodging benefit/allowance of your Non-Clergy (could be a Laity) member. However, this pay type is currently not supported in QuickBooks Online Payroll. The available pay types in QuickBooks, in terms of Church payroll and the like, are only those for the clergy members.

You can try finding a third-party app for tracking the non-clergy logging benefit.

  1. Click Apps on the left-hand side.
  2. Use keywords to search for non-clergy payroll or even clergy payroll. It might have an option to track non-clergy lodging benefits.

On the other hand, you can also send feedback about including this feature in future updates. Just click on the Gear icon and choose Feedback

Let me know if you have any other concerns with your payroll. Take care and have a good one!
