Question

How can I assign a "vacation rate" that will deduct hours when vacation is used that will not default to their hourly rate? My employees vacation rates are varied.

We have commissioned employees that earn vacation based on their production, thus their hourly rate does not work for vacation pay. I did a work around and made a vacation" commission rate that subtracts their hourly rate from the vacation rate earned. The challenge with this work around is also when overtime comes into play, it then takes the higher of the two rates, versus their standard rate. It would be much easier if they simply required a vacation rate be put in versus default it to the normal rate, then all would be easy.

It’s great to see you in the Community, swfloridasalons.

I appreciate you for taking the initial steps on how to set up your employees’ vacation rate and letting us know the result. Let me help and point you in the right direction on how to handle your concern.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can only set one vacation pay and rate. This is to ensure it's properly tracked in your company.

We’re continuously working towards improving the product’s features including payroll. Thus, I suggest sending feedback about adding different options when setting up the vacation policy and rate. This way, our product engineers will be aware that this type of enhancement is important for your business and other customers.

Here’s how:

  1. In your company, press the Gear icon in the upper right and choose Feedback under Profile.
  2. This will open display a window where you can enter your suggestions.
  3. From there, make sure to key in your feedback in the field box.
  4. Click Next to submit it.

I’m adding some links below for future references. These articles provide detailed information on how to set your workers' sick and vacation pay for each payroll service.

Keep me posted below if you have additional questions about entering your employees’ vacation pay and rate. I’ll get back to help you. Have a great rest of your day.
