How can I correct payroll error after direct deposit?

I deducted health insurance from an employee in error. The direct deposit went through last week while I was out of town. Now I need to correct this so the employee gets the $ that was deducted. Payroll liabilites have also gone through the system and bank.

One way to do this is to use the deduction on the next check, but reverse the amount. You'll get a warning, but QB will let you do it.

 

If you have to do it sooner, enter a liability adjustment for the employee and item to reverse it and then cut the employee a standard check using the same offsetting account you used on the adjustment.
