Self-Employed is somehow not calculating correct business mileage from the app to the excel spreadsheet for a specific vehicle. It's almost doubling the business mileage. How can I fix this?

Let me clarify things up in managing business mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), jesse.

In QuickBooks, we’re unable to edit the business mileage section as it depends on the transaction entered. This means, that whatever mileage data you may have in your application will reflect for Potential Business Deductions.

Moreover, I can share you with information about how QuickBooks calculates mileage. The application uses the standard mileage method for tax deduction estimations. In terms of the calculations, QuickBooks multiplies your total business by a current rate per mile set by the IRS.

Since you mentioned that there’s something off with the amounts, we can do some fixes to rectify this and get the correct calculations. If you have manually tracked your mileage within your app, we can edit it by tapping the trip and changing the distance or any other information. For transactions that were automatically tracked, we can delete and recreate them by following the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the Miles or Mileage menu.
  2. Tap the Reviewed tab.
  3. Locate and select the trip.
  4. From there, select the Trash can icon (on a browser or for Android) or Delete Trip (iPhone).

You can manually recreate them by going over to Step 2: Add a trip manually in this article: Manually track mileage in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If the same thing happens, I recommend clearing the app's data. This refreshes the program and addresses some of the common issues:

For iOS:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Setting General iPhone Storage.
  3. Choose the Offload App button.

For Android:

  1. Go to Menu ☰, then tap More Options ⋮.
  2. Tap Settings, then Refresh Data.
  3. Tap YES to confirm.
