Question

How can I hide an account that cannot be deleted because it is being used by a recurring template or scheduled liability payment??

I transferred over to QBO from QB Enterprise and there are dozens of accounts that I would like to hide/inactivate but when I try to hide them I get a message that it is being used by a recurring template. I have tried following the help instructions but other than deleting the recurring transactions one by one nothing seems to work and there are literally thousands of recurring transactions.

Hello there, @doug-burnettepla. I have some information to give on the error notice that appears when deleting an account.

You may be affected by our ongoing issue if you're getting the error message "This account cannot be deleted because it is used by a recurring template or scheduled liability payment" when deactivating an account.

Already, our engineers are working to fix it. I recommend getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Support to be included in the list of users that are impacted. This guarantees that as soon as the problem is resolved, you will be notified through email.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Select Help (?).
  3. Click Talk to a human.
  4. When asked, enter "getting an error message when deleting an account."
  5. Choose a way to connect either Start a chat or Get a callback.

Support is available from Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday from 6 AM to 3 PM PT.

Alternatively, you may consider merging the account first before deleting it if you have downgraded your trial account to a Simple start subscription. Please refer to this link to guide you through the process: Merge duplicate accounts, customers, and vendors in QuickBooks Online.
