I'm trying to add an employee's W-4 in, but the system is saying their address doesn't match. I've looked up their address and everything checks out. How do I get past this?

Thanks for dropping by the Community, office250.

Let’s run some basic troubleshooting steps to get past the error. This is the initial action to perform when you experience unusual behavior in QBO.

To start, visit the USPS website and double-check the address. We’ll have to make sure that the information matches the one listed on the site.

If it’s the right one, access QBO using incognito or private window. This is to check if the browser’s cache is preventing you from entering the employee’s address.

Here’s how to bring up one:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox.
  • Press Command + Shift + N for Safari.

If you can successfully add the worker’s address, go back to your regular browser to clear the cache. Deleting older logs can greatly improve QuickBooks Online performance.

If none of these suggestions work, open your company via a supported browser. This is to check if the one you’re using is the issue.

I've run through the basic troubleshooting as well as checking to see if the address shows on the usps website. It does show that the address exists and after running it through the incognito window I am still unable to put in my employee's address. It tells me the city, state and zip code does not match each other, yet I have other employees from the same area. Is there anything else we can try?

With their tools, one of our specialists can pull up your account on file and determine the reason behind your employee's address not being accepted.

To do so, you can connect with our dedicated team by following the suggestion outlined in this article based on your payroll account: How to get help with your payroll offerings and services?
