How do I change which quarter my estimated taxes are being applied to, such as Q1 rather than Q2?

I sent in my estimated taxes via mailed check, and it was withdrawn by the Treasury Dept. after the official Q4 due date. Quickbooks has applied it to my Q1 estimated amount rather than Q4, but I can’t find a way to manually change which year/quarter it is allocated to.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how tax payments work in QuickBooks Self-Employed. then ensure that your entries are allocated to the correct quarter.

 

There are times when you already made a tax payment but the quarter you paid for has applied to Q1 estimated amount rather than Q4. To fix this, I suggest moving the payments to the correct quarter so the tax payment is matched to the correct quarter in QuickBooks. Please follow the steps below.

 

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select the small arrow icon ▼ for the quarter you paid for.
  3. Look for your tax payment.

 

If you're unable to see the payment in the correct quarter, you can follow the steps below to correct it.

 

  1. Select the Find your estimated tax payments link.
  2. Follow the onscreen steps to choose and match the correct tax payment.
  3. Go back to the Taxes menu. Then, look for your tax payment.

 

If the issue remains to occur, you have to locate the tax payment on the Transactions tab and change it to the correct date. Please choose the date that falls into Q4 to ensure the entry applies to the appropriate quarter.

Hello.  I am having this same problem.  I mailed a check for my Q4 federal estimate on 1/13.  I was unable to pay electronically due to 1/15 being a federal holiday.  The check took 11 days to clear and now it's been credited to 2024 Q1 instead of 2023 Q3.  I've tried following your instructions.  In my taxes menu there is no small arrow icon.  I can choose annual or quarterly.  Once in quarterly  I can't select a quarter.  Thus my Q4 2023 payment has been applied to Q1 2024.  Really need to get this corrected.  Thank you in advance for your help.

I am here to share information on how to move your estimated payments tax to the right quarter in your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account. 

 

Let’s first check on the tax payment you’ve made in the Transaction menu, then look for the payment. Ensure that you have categorized them for Business as Estimated taxes.
