Welcome to the Community, @hozak.

I'll be happy to explain how to convert W-2s from .pdf to .csv.

Here are the steps:

  1. Open a file in Acrobat.
  2. Click on the Export PDF tool in the right pane.
  3. Choose spreadsheet as your export format, and then select Microsoft Excel Workbook.
  4. Click Export. If your PDF contains scanned text, Acrobat will run text recognition automatically.
  5. Name the Excel file and save it in the desired location.

For more information on downloading W-2s, click here.

Please remember, I'm always here for any other questions or concerns.

You can use https://www.docuclipper.com to automatically convert W2-s to Excel. They have a video showing how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw0xPBhL-9g

These answers are useless information for what the person is trying to accomplish.

PA has a specification format that is 29 columns long.  QB Desktop says that it spits out a file that you can submit electronically through the state site (etides), but that's not true.  no one at QB can help or knows anything about the actual requirement.  They tell you to call the state.  You then end up entering everything by hand.

You do not need to convert QB's file to cvs.   It creates a .txt file which you can submit to PA - it's called EFW2 (electronic format W2).  Why it isn't called "W2 txt file" I'll never know.  Very confusing to users.

1) create file via QB Desktop (Employees/PR Tax forms/ Create state W-2 (takes you to excel).

2) click continues /OKs until you get to the excel file.

3) Click pulldown "QB Payroll State W2" (top right corner), /  click Start Interview

4) Accept the txt file name.   Next, next / ok to end.

5) COMPLETE!  Your W2 file was created (note below it says the name of txt file, but File Type = EFW2)

6) save to where you want as txt file.

7)  Sign into PA MyPath.   Find "Employer Annual Reconciliation" (Rev 1667) (must be included to your user to have

😎 Click "Reconcile File Upload"

9)  Click Attachment.   Type = PA-W2 EFW2   (not cvs)   / enter any description / Choose file - where you saved in   (6)  - usually in your documents unless you changed location.

Hope this helps someone - as it was PAINFUL to figure out..

People like you do not get enough credit and I appreciate you taking the time to help others. I struggled with this for hours before I found your explanation.

The MyPath upload does not want a CSV file, it wants the TXT file but calls it a EFW2 file for an unknown and very bizarre reason.

THANK YOU!
