Question

How do I enter payroll history for a salaried employ who received a raise? Quickbooks won't accept the tax info.

Quickbooks is saying the tax amounts don't match because they are supposed to be a percentage of the salary. I belive this is because my employee received a raise on January 8 so taxes were calculated on two different salaries.

I know how you can enter your payroll history into QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP), info-kim. I'll guide you through the process below.

If you're new to QBOP, you'll need to add their paycheck history into the setup. Please note that the information entered should be within the current calendar year and should not have created a paycheck yet within the program.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as the primary admin.
  2. Go to Payroll, and then select Overview.
  3. If you haven’t already, add all of your employees paid this year in the Tell us about your team task. Include all employees that no longer work for you. Make sure to set up each pay item, deduction, contribution, and tax showing on their pay stubs or reports.
  4. Next to Add your payroll history, select Start.
  5. Enter the necessary information.

I'm also attaching an article that provides additional information about the process to ensure you won't miss any details. Please follow Steps 3 and 4 to complete the process: Add pay history to QuickBooks Online Payroll.

However, if you already created their paychecks within QuickBooks, I recommend you contact our Payroll Support team and request a payroll correction or adjustments. They could also help you check your account securely and determine why the program rejects your tax info.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Go to the Help menu, then select the Search tab.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Then, enter a brief description of your concern and select Continue.
  4. Lastly, choose either Start a Chat or Get a Callback to start connecting with them.

Once all set, you can start creating paychecks and paying taxes within the program. Check out these articles as your guide:

Additionally, you can run payroll reports periodically and have a quick view of the payroll-related transactions created so far.
