Question

How do I get information on pay stubs, such as: withholding status and allowances/extras, etc. on each paystub?

Hey Cokes,

Happy to see you here in the Quickbooks Community. To view withholding status, allowances, and so forth on the paystubs, these steps can provide that.

  1. Go to the File tab, then click Print Forms.
  2. Once you selected Print Forms, click Paystubs.
  3. Enter the appropriate information like the check dates and bank account. If you need information for one particular employee, use the drop-down and select the required employee.
  4. Choose Preview and you'll see all the information from the paycheck.
  5. You can either print or email the paystub by selecting the options.
  6. Once finished, click Close.

Please don't hesitate to reach out back to me if you have any other questions and have a nice day.

I have QB Accountant Desktop 2020 & it doesn't show the option to have withholding status/allowances shown on the stubs anymore?  Looking back (I never noticed until a client asked about it today) it looks like those items went away in December - am I missing an update or something?

Hi RussK,

One of the factors why payroll item doesn't calculate on your paycheck it's because payroll item isn't properly set up. You'll want to make sure QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the latest release. Then, verify if the payroll item is set to calculate based on Net or Gross.

Here's how:

  1. Click Lists on the upper menu then select Payroll Item List.
  2. Right-click the deduction you want to verify and select Edit Payroll Item.
  3. Click Next until the Gross vs. Net screen.
  4. Verify the selection is correct.
  5. Click Next until you can click Finish.
  6. Click Finish.

Please check this article for more information: Payroll Items On Paycheck Are Not Calculating or Are Calculating Incorrectly.

Once done, you can revert paychecks to refresh your payroll information to calculate the taxes on the transaction. How To Revert Pending Paychecks.

Who is writing these responses? Lol, was the original question even read or understood? I believe this may have something to do with the change to the W-4 in 2020 and the new requirements to protecting customer personal data. I do agree it should be optional as to whether the employer includes this info or not. You can submit a suggestion to Intuit requesting it is added back but, yes, it appears, there has been a programming modification to the paystub.  I will update if I receive more info.
