Several employees are having to pay taxes this year. It appears not enough is being deducted from paychecks. How can this be fixed?

Hi, @sheila22

I can share how QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll deducts taxes from your employees' paychecks.

QBO Payroll calculates taxes automatically depending on how the Federal Income Tax (FIT) and State Income Tax (SIT) withholdings are set up. If you suspect taxes aren't deducted correctly from the issued paychecks, you'll want to review the following factors.

For FIT, kindly review the following:

Since tax calculation varies by state, you can review the state’s withholding website for SIT.

Finally, to help you in this task, I suggest running the Payroll Details report. I also encourage consulting your tax professional while reviewing your employees' information.

Once done with the review of the taxes deducted from the issued paychecks, let me add this guide to editing employee-paid payroll deductions: Set up, change, or delete employee-paid payroll deductions.

We'll be here if you have updates about reviewing the taxes deducted from the issued paychecks. We're committed to offering ongoing support. Take care.
