I am new to QB online. We only operate in Indiana, but my Payroll Tax Center keeps telling me Wisconsin reports are due. We had an employee that lived in WI, who terminated 8 years ago.

I can help you remove the state in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @tnaas.

The taxes displayed in the Payroll Tax Center are typically those that have been entered into your employees' payroll information and have either been paid or are in the process of being filed.

By marking the terminated employee as inactive, we can remove the Wisconsin state from the system. I'll guide you on how to do it.

  1. From your left navigation page, select Payroll.
  2. Go to the Employees tab.
  3. Select the name of your employee.
  4. Click the Pencil icon beside the Employment.
  5. In the Status dropdown, choose the best option.
  6.  Press Done.

You can read this article to learn more about changing the status of employees in QuickBooks: Terminate or change your employee's status on payroll. It includes steps to create a worker's final paycheck.

Furthermore, generate a payroll report and verify if there's no payroll created under the Wisconsin state.

Additionally, refer to this guide on how to conclude this year's payroll and prepare for the upcoming year using QuickBooks Online: The year-end checklist.

If you have any other payroll questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to leave a message. I’ll be here. Take care always!

This employee was terminated several years ago and shows "terminated" in QBO.  There is no payroll created under the Wisconsin state. This company file was converted from QB Desktop, so I am wondering if there is no way to remove the Wisconsin state?
