Question

How do I run a nondiscretionary bonus? I have a employee who hit a certain sales goal and triggered a bonus contractually agreed to. Thanks!

Welcome to the Community, @kevin-grazioli. I'd be glad to walk you through creating a bonus check for your employee. 

 

To add it to a regular paycheck, you'll need to set up an employee with a bonus pay type so a bonus field will appear when creating paychecks. Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Employees or Payroll menu.
  2. Pick the employee's name, then click Edit employee.
  3. In the How much do you pay this employee? section, select Add additional pay types if you haven't selected any other pay types, or click Edit if you have.
  4. Check the Bonus box.
  5. Choose Done.

 

For future reference, you'll want to create a separate bonus paycheck for your employee. Read through this article: Pay an employee bonus. It also helps you learn and understand the tax settings for issuing separate checks in QuickBooks Online. 

 

You can also run reports in QuickBooks Online to view useful information about your business and employees.
