I've got two options on how you can track tax refunds in QuickBooks Self-Employed, ftouchet7.

Before proceeding with the process, it would be best to consult your accountant or tax adviser to ensure you won't mess up your books.

The first option is to exclude the original income you recorded in QBSE to remove it from the estimated tax calculation. Recording refund isn't part of the Schedule C category. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu and locate the refund.
  2. Then, click the right arrow under the ACTION column.
  3. Tick the Exclude this transaction (this is for duplicates, reimbursements, customer refunds, and returned purchases) box.
  4. Click Save.

The second option is to mark it as a Personal expense. If you connected your bank and downloaded the refund transaction. You can manually change the category to Personal
