Hello there, @112660. I'm here to make sure the 2020 W-4 will show the correct tax details for your employees. Let's work together to resolve this right away.

First off, allow me to discuss some information about this.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), there are few possible reasons why the 2020 W-4 form isn't taking the Federal and Medicare taxes of your employees. One of those is that they did not meet the taxable wage base or they are set to Don't Withhold for federal and state income taxes. To fix this, let's check their filing status. Here's how:

  1. In your QBO company, navigate to the Payroll menu.
  2. Next, select Employees.
  3. Then, look and select the name of that employee.
  4. Click the edit icon beside Pay.
  5. Next to the withholding section, select the Edit  icon.
  6. From there, check the Federal Filing Status/State Filing Status if it was set to Don't Withhold. Make some changes if necessary.

For reference, please visit this article: Troubleshoot no income tax withheld  from a paycheck.

Additionally, here are the following awesome resources that you can access to have a guide in managing your employees filing status:

Please let me know how this goes. I'd appreciate any updates about this. You'll always free to post a comment below if you have additional questions about the W-4 of your employees. I'm just around the corner and ready to lend a hand. Have a great day and take care.

Can I update  my w4 ory employer have to do it

April 26, 2022

Hello, R72.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. Your employer has to do it. Just provide them with your updated W-4, so they can reflect the changes in their QuickBooks. Please take note that once revising the W4 data to the 2020 version, you'll no longer be able to return to the old version.

To fill in the W-4 info. Here's how:

  1. Open the email and click Get set up or Complete setup now (or Sign in).
  2. Fill in all requested info: personal, W-4, and bank account. Bank account only appears if your employer selected to pay via direct deposit.
  3. Check all of your info to make sure it's correct and sign your W-4.
  4. Select Save or Submit.
