Question

How do you automate state withholding? I spoke with someone from QuickBooks and they said our submission hadn't been processed. That was 2 weeks ago. How can I do this?

When we first set up payroll, we didin't have all of our state documentation ready, so I think that is why it isn't automated. I just can't seem to find out how to now automate it myself, so I can stop doing it manually.

Hello, Chris Joyce.

I'll show you how you can automate your state withholding.

You'll want to go to your Payroll settings page and ensure the tax automation option is turned on. I'll show the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Payroll settings.
  2. Expand the Taxes and forms section.
  3. Check the Automate taxes and forms box.
  4. Hit Save, then Done

It should be noted that Premium and Elite plans can automate your local taxes. If you have the Core version, you'll want to upgrade your payroll subscription

If you need some reference about the steps above, you can read more about the details here: Manage automatic tax payments and form filings.

Need to run reports for your payroll liabilities, employee data and more? Check out this article to guide you on what reports you can run: Run payroll reports.

I'm willing to drop some information if you have other concerns with your payroll service. Aside from your payroll tasks, I can also help you out in other areas in the program.
