Question

How do you fix an empty QBXML file you're trying to migrate to QBD Premier Plus from QBO? I followed the checklist and used the migration tool 11 times. Nothing works.

I purchased QBD Premier Plus and have worked with tech support multiple, multiple times to migrate our QBO file over, but it never works. I open our QBD program and there is no company data in it whatsoever. Has anyone had similar issues and resolved this? I complete the steps correctly. Support has watched through screen share. I have been told several reasons for the failure: -Intuit no longer allows the data migration. -You have to purchase the advance support. -You have to purchase a 3rd party service to transfer the software. -You have to talk to a Pro Advisor -You have to talk to a Solutions Provider (other support techs say they don't exist)

Hi there, @userdmbrock8991

I appreciate you for performing the troubleshooting steps to migrate your QuickBooks Online (QBO) file to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). I can share with you some additional information about the process to help you transfer your data successfully.

Microsoft discontinued support for Internet Explorer in 12/2020 which includes the ActiveX feature we used to export out of QBO. This is the reason why there's no direct way to move out your data from QBO to QBDT. However, you can export and convert your QBO data to Desktop.

Here’s how:

  1. Login to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Export Data under Tools.
  3. Enter the reason why you're exporting your data. Then, click Continue.
  4. Review your data from the export overview screen. Once ready, click Export to Excel.
  5. In the Exporting from QuickBooks Online page, select Continue to Download.
  6. Follow the on-screen pop-ups to complete the process.

Once done, import the data to QBDT. I'm adding these articles as your references:

Otherwise, yes, you can look for a third-party application that supports the process of transferring data from QBO to QBDT to ease the process. You can find one through this link: Find the right apps for your business.

Once done, you can review the topics from this article to get started with QBDT: Related Resources for QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know how else I can help you with moving your data from QBO to QBDT. I'll be right here to provide additional assistance. Wishing you a good one!

Thank you for your response.

Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean we cannot use a different browser to fix this issue? Some support members did say it was not supported for Internet Explorer, but that I could use Chrome. They said QBO and the migration tool was meant to be used with Google Chrome.

Is this not true?

I appreciate you for getting back, @userdmbrock8991.

I want you to know that the process of transferring your data from QBO to QBDT works only for the IE browser. Since the support for this browser was discontinued, you can check out the steps I've added above to export and import manually to transfer them successfully.

Otherwise, you can consult with an IT professional for further help in moving your data. They have expertise regarding this matter and might be able to give you other options during the migration process.

Here are some QuickBooks related resources about this topic:

@userdmbrock8991

Just to clarify. Do you need to migrate data from QBO US version to QBD US version, or else?

November 22, 2021

Correct. I need to transfer our QBO US version to our QBD US version (2022 Nonprofit Premier Plus).
