How do you set an employees payroll to hit a specific account and not the generic wages account?

Hi there, @soundtech.

Thanks for visiting us here in the Community. I'm here to share information about employees' wage accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You can set or change the posting account for your employees' wages by going to the Payroll settings. The steps to do this are pretty quick and easy. Here's how:

  1. In QBO, go to the Gear icon at the top right.
  2. Select Payroll settings.
  3. Click Accounting in the Preferences section.
  4. In the Wage Expense Accounts section, choose your preferred account in the drop-down.
  5. If you need to apply these changes to past transactions, select Edit ✎ next to Want to update existing transactions, then add a Start Date.

To learn more about managing and changing accounting preferences in QBO, consider checking out this article: Change your accounting preferences in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

I also recommend visiting our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.

If you have additional questions about payroll or anything else QuickBooks, please let me know in the comment section below. I'll be glad to answer them. Take care always.
