Question

How long does it take to set up a direct deposit for an employee's payroll. Can I do it 3 days prior to payroll?

If I run payroll thursday morning for Friday pay day, and I add the direct deposit on tuesday prior, is that enough time for the direct deposit to become effective?

Hey there, linda.

I'm happy to provide information about the processing time for direct deposits in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll.

The time it takes to set up your account for direct deposit and pay your employees depends on whether you can instantly connect your bank account and your payroll lead time.

If you can connect your bank account instantly using Instant Bank Verification, you can start using direct deposit for your team right away. If not, we'll initiate a test debit of less than $1.00 to your account. You'll need to enter this amount to authorize your account for payroll transactions. It may take up to 2 days before you see this debit.

Once your bank account is verified, you can now set up direct deposit for your employees. After that, you can assign a pay schedule to your employees, create their paychecks, and send your payroll.

To ensure your employees are paid on time, it's important to know your direct deposit lead time. You can review this resource for your reference: When to send your direct deposit payroll.

Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions about the direct deposit process in QuickBooks. I'm here to help. Have a great day.
