Question

How should I handle the following? I uploaded a payroll tax notice a while back and it was received. I’ve never gotten a resolution or response. What should I do?

The notice was received and last updated on December 14th. Seems to be just stuck with no movement for a response or resolution.

Hello there, Jennb77. I'm glad you've raised this issue here in the QuickBooks Community. Allow me to provide some guidance on how to address this situation.

I see that you mentioned the notice was already received. Since you didn't receive a response, I recommend contacting our Payroll Support Team to further check and confirm if we received it.

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.

Additionally, ensure that the document attachment type is correct, as our system can only accept: PDF, JPEG, PNG, Word, Excel, and Outlook MSG. If you forwarded the notice via email, make sure you included it as an attachment rather than an embedded image. You can check this article: Send in your payroll tax notice. You can go to the Frequently asked questions section for more information:

Lastly, you'll want to visit this link to help you view information about our business, employees, and payroll taxes: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

I'm always here to assist you with follow-up questions about QuickBooks Online Payroll. Please don't hesitate to ask me anything.

I've also had several issues with QBO support.  Especially since switching from Desktop Payroll to Online Payroll.  They never respond to my submitted Tax notices to the Tax Resolution Center or the Tax Resolution email address. I've gotten several since making the switch over in February of 2024, from both the State and IRS.  I've always had to call Intuit for status and explain everything over the phone, only to be told they would call back, and they never do.  My most recent frustration was when switching from Desktop to Online, they're timing of IRS deposits shifted and Intuit failed to make 3 monthly deposits on time. Resulting in $799.29 in penalties from the IRS.  Intuit claimed the penalties were my responsibility, even though they admitted they knew my payroll run date needed to be changed to allow time for the IRS deposits to be made. My payroll dates had been at the end of the month for more than 10 years while using QB Desktop.

From talking to a customer service representative about the issue, they admitted they were aware of the need to change the payroll date, but they could see that the notification was never sent to me. So, they suggested I submit a dispute.   I took the time to provide a letter and 16 pages of backup information including Intuit’s automated email responses and the IRS notices (in PDF format) back in September of 2024. I'm still waiting on a resolution over 90 days later.

And just today, December 26, 2024, after an hour on the phone with “David” from QBO Payroll Support, he promised to send me a case number and an explanation of how Intuit was going to be in contact with the IRS to help resolve the penalties by detailing “how I was not responsible”.  So far, he has not sent the case number or the written version of what he told me over the phone.  Seems like he lied just to get me off the phone or management would not let him send it?  Total dissatisfaction after numerous hour long calls with Intuit Payroll support with absolutely no results or determination of responsibility!
