I am seeing the error "Direct deposit isn't enabled on your account." which is preventing me from paying my contractors. How do I enable direct deposit?

I’ll be delighted to help you pay your contractors in QuickBooks Online (QBO), wolfmoun.

 

The error you have encountered is usually caused by the unavailability of an application that supports you to pay your contractors via direct deposit. 

 

To have this option, you will need to have a QuickBooks Online Payroll subscription or Contractor Payments. The following will let you send their money directly to their bank accounts. Otherwise, you can only pay your contractors with paper checks.

 

Once you have either of the two, you can start adding your contractor, then set up a direct deposit. Afterward, create a contractor's direct deposit payments. Here’s how:

 

  1. Navigate to the Payroll menu and select the Contractors tab.
  2. Tap the Pay contractors. Then, double-check the Bank account you’ll be paying from and select the Pay date.
  3. Choose the contractor(s) you’d like to pay.
  4. Select Direct Deposit for Payment method. 
  5. Enter all the necessary needed to complete the transaction details.
  6. Click the Preview contractor pay, then, Submit contractor pay.
  7. Lastly, select Done.
