Question

I filed my 940's on the 28th of January but now they show as incomplete? It shows 2 payments exactly the same thing? When I click finish it goes to a totally blank page?

It won't let me set up my next filing until these are complete so now I'm stuck. How can I complete those filings?

Completing your 940 form filings in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is my priority, @mdurrant1. With this, you're able to keep your payroll data updated and set up your next filings accordingly.

This payroll form filings completion error can sometimes be caused by the browser's overtime collection of data from frequent page visits. To isolate this matter, you can perform some troubleshooting steps.

You can start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Taxes menu's Payroll Tax Center to view your payroll tax payments and forms in QBO Payroll. You can also refer to this article for the detailed steps: Access payroll tax forms and tax payments.

If your Form 940 shows complete, return to your default browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performances issue. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

Also, there are several payroll reports you can use to view helpful information about your business finances and employees' details. To see the complete list, I'd recommend checking out this article: Run payroll reports. It also includes details about customizing, printing, and how you can mark them as your favorite.

Keep me posted in the comments if you have other payroll concerns and questions about tax form filings in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care and stay safe, @mdurrant1.
