Question

I got an email from qbo asking for an EIN Assignment Letter by Oct 10th or my account will be closed. I have had my EIN for decades and don't have the original. Now what?

It will take weeks to get a verification letter from the IRS for my EIN number. The IRS will not issue a copy of the EIN Assignment letter that qbo requests. So qbo is just going to close my account on Oct 10th?????!!!! Or is this just a scam?

Hello there, @TomG4. I'm here to provide some information about the EIN assignment letter you've received.

When you use QuickBooks in processing payments, we have to verify the taxpayer details you entered. If we're unable to, we'll send an email (email will come from QBO@intuit.com or AccountValidation@intuit.com) and call you to update it.

Once received, you'll have to review the details and the deadline indicated in the email. Then, update your business info. Another way is to complete and submit a Substitute Form W-9 or send us your SS-4 EIN Assignment Letter.

You may be subject to backup withholding or service interruptions if you fail to update your account. This could include funding delays, limited payment processing capabilities, or account closure.

For reference, check out this article: Fix Invalid Taxpayer Information.

Then, to further clarify the information, I highly recommend reaching out to our Customer Care team. They use specific tools to look into your account and give advice on the steps you need to take. Here's how:

  1. In your QBO account, click the Help icon.
  2. Next, select the Search tab and click Contact Us.
  3. From there, enter a brief description of your concern and select Continue.
  4. Choose either Chat or Call option to connect to our live support.

To get assisted immediately, feel free to visit our support hours page.

I've also added this awesome resource where you can find helpful guides in performing your QuickBooks tasks: QBO Help page.
