I recognize the importance of being able to run payroll, @BMauldenSPE.

Allow QuickBooks Desktop to identify that your payroll service is operational by revalidating your payroll service key. Please take the following steps:

  1. In the Employees menu, click on My Payroll Service, and choose Manage Service Key.
  2. Highlight the existing service key. Ensure you have a copy of it, then hit Remove.
  3. Select the Employees My Payroll Service > click on Enter Payroll Service Key.
  4. Select Add and re-enter the service key, and the Payroll Disk Delivery Key if asked.
  5. Hit Next, then hit Finish.

Regarding the taxes, there are multiple reasons why it's not calculating. These are:

  • The total annual salary exceeds the salary limit.
  • The tax table is not updated.
  • The gross wages of the employee's last payroll are too low.

To refresh the data and have the taxes calculated, you'll need to revert the paycheck. Simply open the payroll information for the employee and right-click the employee's name that is highlighted in yellow. Then select Revert Paycheck from the drop-down menu.

If you want to activate a Payroll service from a retail store, you'll have to activate your payroll license online to get the service key.
