Question

I have duplicate bank accounts in QB. I've used JE's to move the all transactions to the other acc. How do I close the account? It's tied to my payroll as well?

I set up a bank account in QB (lets call it Z). I then setup payroll in QB, trying to connect it to Z, but instead it created a duplicate account (let's call it X). X had about 20 payroll transactions to it (direct deposits and tax payments) and I used Journal Entries to move the payroll transaction from X to Z. The X account has a $0 balance now. I need to reconfigure my payroll setup to be linked to Z. I tried already, but there was no screen in which I could select which QB Bank account to use. How do I do this?

Let me guide you on how you can set up an account for your payroll, hannah-coastline.

Generally, the usual way that we can do this in cases we've created duplicate accounts is merge them into one account. However, since you've used Journal Entries to move your payroll transactions and involve direct deposit, I recommend reaching out to our support team so they can double-check what's the best way to handle them. Here's how to reach out to our support team:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter "QBO Mobile App".
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

Additionally, there are several ways how you can view useful information about your business and payroll. Learn more on how to do this through this article: Run Payroll Reports In QuickBooks Online Payroll.

If there's anything else that you need help with your payroll, let me know so we can further assist you.
