Question

I have signed up with Merit, the Maine retirement program. Is there a way to upload employee information, or do I need to enter it manually? Thanks

Hi, Chris. Good day.

I am here to assist you with uploading employee information in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you need to transfer employee information from QBO to the MERIT app, you can choose to export the Employee Details report. You can then upload the file to the app. Here are the steps that you can follow:

  1. In your QBO account, go to Reports.
  2. Search for Employee details.
  3. At the top right of the report, select Export
  4. Select Export to Excel.
  5. Save the file somewhere you can easily find, like your Downloads folder.

If you want to upload your employee information to QBO for the integrated MERIT app to receive it, you can invite your employees to enter their information. This approach is an alternative to manually entering employee information and ensures that the correct employee data is entered. I've outlined the steps below.

  1. If you have already added your employees within QBO, select the employee profile on the Employees list page with a yellow exclamation mark and toggle on Employee self-setup.
  2. If the employees aren't added yet, select Add an employee on the Employees list page.
  3. Add your employee’s name and email address and ensure that the Employee self-setup is on.
  4. Select Add employee.

Moreover, you can also consider securely storing their documents in the Documents tab in QBO. You can learn more about this by referring to this article:  Upload employee documents to QuickBooks Online Payroll

For future reference, you can refer to this article about how to let your employees view their pay stubs and W-2s after processing their paychecks in QBO: Set up your QuickBooks Workforce account
