Question

I just reactivated an employee who was on unpaid leave. How do I set the date when they became active again so I can run their payroll properly?

Note that this is for quickbooks payroll online. I see similar answers showing how to do it on the desktop product, but the online interface doesn't seem to have any date field for this.

Great idea you have there, @dsimard-dand-io.

Currently, the option to enter the date of re-employment or reactivation of employees is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). What we can do for now is change your employees' Hire Date to the date they're returning to work.

For more details about the process, please check out this article: Terminate or change your employee's status on payroll.

I recognize how this option could help you manage your business flawlessly. Thus, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team so they can review it and might consider implementing it in the future. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Type in your feedback and product suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit them.

Additionally, several payroll reports are available for you to generate in QBO. This will give you a closer look at your employee's total wages, deductions, and tax information in a certain period. For the complete list and details on how to pull up these reports, kindly refer to this article: Run payroll reports.

Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns with managing your employees or payroll transactions in QBO. I'll be here to lend a helping hand. Have a great day ahead!
