Question

I just sold my vet practice. I owe employees for 2 days of this pay period. Can I pay them now or do I have to wait until the end of the period (May 15)?

Hi there, @drleevmd.

How do you pay your employees? If you use Check as the payment method, there's no problem at all with paying your employees in advance as long as you print and deliver the checks. If you pay them with direct deposits, you can create and transmit them up to 45 days in advance. To ensure your employees get paid on time, check out this article: When do I need to submit payroll to pay employees on time?.

Here's how to create paychecks:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Go to the Payroll menu and select Employees.
  3. Go to Employees.
  4. Select Run Payroll.
  • If you have more than one payroll schedule, select the schedule, then Continue.
  • Select the employees you'd like to pay.
  • Enter the hours and memos.
  1. Select Preview payroll.
  2. Choose Preview payroll details or Submit payroll.
  3. Click Finish Payroll.

Additionally, you can browse this article to help track your payroll transactions in QBO: Run payroll reports.
