I'm making payments for the tax year 2022 on EFTPS, but they seem to be being attributed in TurboTax to the tax year 2023. How can I attribute a tax payment to 2022?

I'll lead you in the right direction to process your 2022 tax payment.

 

First off, let me share some information about the quarterly estimated tax payment due dates. The 2022 tax deadlines are:

 

  • 1st Quarter (January 1 – Mar 31): April 18, 2022 
  • 2nd Quarter (April 1 – May 31): June 15, 2022 
  • 3rd Quarter (June 1 – August 31): September 15, 2022 
  • 4th Quarter (September 1 – December 31): January 16, 2022 

 

If you missed the deadline, you may be subject to a penalty. Please check the IRS website for the complete instructions: Processing Late Payments.

Thanks @LieraMarie_A . My question is more related to the TurboTax tool itself. On EFTPS, I'm making payments for the 2022 year, but in Quickbooks, they are being attributed to the year 2023, which is incorrect. How can I fix that so that when I export my data from Quickbooks to Turbotax, the payments for 2022 will be counted correctly?

    Thanks for checking back with us, @rodrigoreis22. 

     

    In QuickBooks, you can not submit these payments when they're late. Since we are in the 2023 year and the payments need a date of 2022, it is considered late. 

     

    However, I have some steps you can follow to record the payments in QuickBooks. This way, when you go to file your 2023 taxes, you won't run into any issues. 

     

    1. Select the Transactions menu, then Add transaction.
    2. Enter "(Date and fiscal year) quarterly federal tax payment" in the description field.
    3. Enter the amount and the date you made the payment.
    4. Go to the Select a category option and choose Taxes, then Estimated Taxes.
    5. Press Save after.

     

    If the payment was missed and you didn't get the chance to submit it yet, you can follow the steps from the IRS website to pay them.
