Question

I ran payroll a few days late. Now it is defaulting to the next payroll date. How do I make it pay today?

We've got you, david. I'm here to help you run the payroll you missed.

You can submit payroll a few days late if it was missed. To do so, you'll have to create an unscheduled paycheck. If you're using QuickBooks Online Payroll, you can make one of these checks for the current pay period.

Here's how:

  1. Access the Payroll menu, then go to Employees.
  2. Click Run Payroll.
  3. Pick an employee and press Create another check.
  4. Enter the employee's compensation, including any salary adjustments, vacation or sick hours, and other payment types.
  5. Confirm your pay period and check date. The only dates available are ones that fall after your last one and before your next payday.
  6. Choose Preview Payroll, then Submit payroll.
  7. For paper checks, write them by hand or print them, and give a copy to your employee along with the date.
  8. Then choose Finish payroll.
