I recently hired an employee in a new state (Nebraska) and when I try to export payroll Quickbooks desktop won't accept the file since the "accounts are not set up".

You haven't specified, but I assume you meant to export from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. We'll help you check to see why you received an error regarding your accounts. I just need a few more details to find the root cause.

 

Did you inactivate some payroll accounts that you used before? Can you send a screenshot of the error? Is there any difference in the setup of the new employee? Is there any missing info on the employee's profile? You'll see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point.
