I turned off auto-payroll but it's trying to withdraw funds tomorrow. How do I stop it?

Welcome to the Community forum, @cwolverton-accel.

When turning off Auto Payroll in QuickBooks Online, you'll need to ensure that you've done this before the paychecks are created for the current pay cycle. So, if you want to stop paying an employee via Auto Payroll, you need to unenroll them. Additionally, if you unenroll all your employees, Auto Payroll will be turned off completely.

To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Payroll Settings.
  3. Go to the Auto Payroll section, click the Edit icon.
  4. Choose Manage Auto Payroll in the Setup Auto Payroll section.
  5. Select the enrolled employees. Their status will change to "Not Enrolled".
  6. Click Save Changes.
  7. Review the confirmation of how many employees are enrolled in Auto Payroll as well as when automatic payments will process.
  8. Click Done.

However, if the deadline to cancel the payments passed, the employees will receive the money in their bank account on the pay date. But you can void the payment and collect the money back from your employee. If this is not possible, you may qualify to request a direct deposit reversal.

I also suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. Since they have the specific tools to verify the settings of your account and help check if they can stop processing the payroll in withdrawing the funds.

To reach them, follow the below steps:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern in the description field.
  4. Click Let's talk.
  5. Select either Start messaging or Get a callback.

To ensure that we address your concerns on time, I encourage you to check our support hours first.

For future reference, here's a resource that you may find helpful: Manage automatic tax payments and form filings.
