Welcome to the QuickBooks Community!

I want to ensure you can turn off the automatic payroll tax payments and form filings in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To clarify, is QuickBooks won't allow you to save after selecting the I'll initiate payments and filings using QuickBooks option? If so, let's try logging out and logging in to your QBO account. Then, proceed on turning off the payroll tax payments and form filings feature.

If you get the same result, let's open your QBO account using a private browser. It's possible that the browser you're using had a data issue that caused QuickBooks to act weirdly. To do so, you can press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

If this works, they need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If they get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different one.

You may encounter overpayment on your payroll taxes in the future. You can check out this article to learn how to handle it: Resolve a payroll tax overpayment.

Come back to this post and let me know how the troubleshooting steps go. I want to make sure you're taken care of.
