Question

I use QB Online payroll core and filed my W-2's electronically. QB says it will also file my state W-2's electronically, but it is saying I still need to file IL W-2??

The IL W-2 is still listed in my payroll Action Center as needing to be completed.

I can help you check the tax filing status of your W-2, @kimnickels.

We automatically file your W-2s with Federal. Since you do this through QuickBooks Online Payroll, you'll get a confirmation via email. If you didn't get it, see the status by following these steps:

  1. Go to Taxes and then Payroll Tax.
  2. Select Filings.
  3. Filter to choose the form or report you want to see. You can also scroll down to the filings under Done. The status next to the tax name will be displayed. Otherwise, select Archived forms and filings.

Take note of these tax filing statuses:

  • Not Transmitted: You did your part, but we haven't sent it to the IRS, state, or local tax agency yet.
  • Transmitted: We sent the form to the agency, but the agency hasn't processed it yet. The IRS generally processes forms within a few weeks. State agencies can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
  • Accepted: The agency has received and accepted the form.
  • Rejected: The receiving agency has received and rejected the form. Review the rejection letter emailed to you for the specific reason.

After verifying that the agency has received it and found no records or history of the IL W-2, contact our Support Team. They can help us resolve why the notification still appears on your Payroll Action Center.
