Question

I want to use QB for preparing and filing FY23 1099s and W2s but only have FY24 data in QB. Can I still prepare/ E-File FY23 by manually inputting data into forms?

This depends on when you signed up for your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account, Steve.

QuickBooks typically allows you to manually input data into forms for previous years, enabling you to accurately prepare and file the necessary tax forms.

If your QBO account was purchased last year, you can utilize the program to prepare and file your FY23 1099s and W-2s. Since the system will no longer let you manage it manually, you'll want to contact our payroll support team for accurate data entry. Our representatives can also help you set up all the required information to file your tax forms without errors.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. Enter your brief concern and click Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat
    • Get a callback from the next available expert

On the other hand, if you just recently signed up this year, entering data into forms by hand isn’t possible. You may consider submitting your 1099s and W-2 forms outside the program.
