I would like to give a salaried employee a intra year raise on a pay period basis for the remainder of the year. How do I do this?

I got you covered, fleisher. I'm here to ensure you can adjust or change your employee's salary.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), salaried employees have a fixed rate for each pay period. However, there may be instances where you need to adjust or modify their salary for one paycheck. To start, ensure have updated your pay type to salaried.

There are two processes we can follow to complete this.

First, determine the hours worked and the equivalent salary amount. To do this, we have to deduct the days or hours the employees didn't work from the regular total hours for that period.

You can use this sample info:

  • Pay schedule: Weekly (40 hrs)
  • Hours didn’t work: 2 days or 16 hrs

Hours worked = 40 - 16

In this example, the employee’s hours worked is 24 hrs for a weekly pay period.

Second, we override your pay. After knowing the hours worked or the equivalent amount for the hours worked, we can now proceed to pay your salaried employees.

QBO Payroll calculates the prorated amount for you as you change the hours worked:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Choose Run Payroll.
  3. When asked, select a pay schedule.
  4. Select your employee, then change the hours worked.
  5. Preview and submit payroll.
  6. Click Finished payroll.

You can visit this guide for more details: Override an employee's salary

Moreover, I've included a few resources you can browse to learn how to process payroll and review your payroll data in QBO:
