Question

If a check was written in a prior closed period, how do I void that check in the current period without affecting the closed period numbers?

This is not related to payroll checks.

Hey there @stutsdst,

 

Voiding transactions from a close book will cause a discrepancy in your current period. You'll want to consult your accountant before voiding your check.

 

Below are the steps to void a check:

  1. Go to Gear, then Account and settings.
  2. Choose Advanced, then Accounting.
  3. Click the Pencil icon to edit, and remove the Closing date.
  4. Hit Save, then Done.

How can I void a check from a prior closed period.  I do not want to reissue the check.  I have made a general journal entry to correct the expense but how do I correct the outstanding check so the reconciliation process will balance?  Thank you!

You can void checks from your Check screen.
 

Here's how:

  1. In the left navigation bar, go to Bookkeeping, Transactions, then Expenses.
  2. Use your Filter and choose Check in the Type field.
  3. Specify a date range when the check was received and click Apply.
  4. Find and hit which one you're voiding from your Expense Transactions list to open it.
  5. Press More, then Void.
  6. Select Yes.
