Intuit online payroll (from Bank of America) transfer to Quickbooks

I have been using Intuit online payroll that I access through Bank of America. Was told I had to transfer to Quickbooks online payroll. I do not use Quickbooks (I use Quicken).  So I clicked on 'let's do it' to transfer to Quickbooks online payroll thinking it would be simple. Not so much. First it then told me to login to my Quickbooks account, and it said I needed to have a Quickbooks accounting program. This is something that was never mentioned in the email to me about transferring.. so I have to pay for Quickbooks plus the Online Payroll??  Ok, so I signed up thinking I'll give it a try.  When I login to my Quickbooks and then click on payroll, it wants me to sign up for a payroll account.  But I already did!  How the heck do I access my Quickbooks online payroll account that I am paying for along with the Quickbooks accounting account?  I signed back into Bank of America and tried to log back into my online payroll through there and the link is broken. Nothing comes up.  This is just great. Now I see all the threads about people having issues. I called and talked to someone who had me on the phone for 40 minutes, acted like she had no clue what my problem was and then disconnected me.  Then I tried the Chat, guess what the technician left the chat while we were in the middle of discussing what was wrong. This is a terrible experience with Quickbooks and I think I'd rather manually do my payroll then deal with this type of service. Can anyone help me?

I wish I could make it better, @Redbird1219.

In QuickBooks Online, you'll have to prepare your accounting preferences first for the accounts you'll have to use and are affected with all your payroll transactions. This way, your company data from the online payroll will convert successfully so you can get back to business in no time. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under YOUR COMPANY, select Payroll Settings.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Click Accounting Preferences.
  5. Review and select all your payroll accounts accordingly.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Click OK.

Additionally, here's an article you can read this article to learn more about this setting: Payroll Accounting Preferences.

From here, you can go ahead and proceed with the conversion from your online payroll account. To do so, you can follow the steps outlined in this link: Setup export of IOP data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Need help performing any tasks related to your account and company settings, click here to access and browse all articles for QuickBooks products. This reference contains most resources with steps on how you can update your data and security management, to name a few.

Don't hesitate to post again here if you have other questions or concerns with QuickBooks tasks and navigations. I'm always around happy to help. Stay safe and have a good one!

JonpriL, that's just it, my payroll subscription is not showing up on my Quickbooks online account.  When I go to the Gear icon, then my Company, I don't have Payroll Settings.

This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have with your payroll data, @Redbird1219. I'm here to guide you on the actions you need to take care of your payroll subscription issue with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Since the Community is a public forum, and we'll need to collect some personal information to pull up your payroll account details, I encourage you to reach out to our Payroll care team again. This is to verify all your QuickBooks subscriptions and make sure you'll not be subscribed more than you need to. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message or Get a callback). Make sure to initiate contact during support hours.

I've attached a screenshot below that shows the last five steps.

Once you're done, feel free to open the links from this article in case you need guides while working with QuickBooks payroll in the future.

Also, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing your payroll account using QuickBooks Online: Help Articles for Online Payroll. It includes topics about subscription management, setting up and editing payroll, and money movement, to name a few.

Please keep me posted on how it goes. I'll be right here if you need further assistance and/or other payroll concerns. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Stay safe and have a nice day.

I have exact same problem when I tried to convert my church Intuit online payroll(from Bank of America) to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.....

I thought that is just straight forward convert, and we will still keep all our payroll data in it?

Could you please share any solutions you got so far?  Appreciated !

August 4, 2021

Thanks for coming into this thread, SeaBOL.

Conversion is automatic once you migrate from Intuit Online Payroll (IOP) to QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll Core. Thus all your payroll data will remain.

Feel free to read through this article to learn what to expect when converting files from IOP to QBO Payroll Core: Move from Intuit Online Payroll to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core.

If you're experiencing issues with the conversion process, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Care Team. This requires a thorough investigation to identify its cause so you'll be able to convert the files successfully.

Check out this article to be  more familiar with using the QBO Payroll Core:

Let me know if you have additional questions about this, or need further assistance. I'm here to help. Have a lovely day!

The quickbooks are team doest seem to know whats happening is isn't properly trained. Ive been bounced around to 7 different people and none of the could help

August 4, 2021

Im having the same  problem. After being subtly forced to switch accounts we hesitantly did and the data seems to have been lost because its now saying there's no account associated with our email and I've been bounced around 7 times from one incompetent rep to another for 2.5 hours and no one seems to know how to help. So far not a great look for this company and the lack of actual live/on the phone tech support is horrible

I wish I had read this before I clicked "Let's do this!"  I've lost all my info.  I hope I can get some help soon. I need to do payroll tomorrow and, of course, no one is available until Monday.  Frustrating...

Hi - I had no luck getting this up and running through the BofA portal either.  I hate staying on hold so I took the login information that was populated by BofA "We found your accounts which one do you want to sign in under" and went directly to:

Surprisingly I was able to login very quickly, the payroll reports and info had already been transferred over by BofA/Intuit.  I was able to pay my payroll tax without much trouble.  I am not sure if the link will work from BofA to quickbooks payroll in the future but I will use the direct link if need be.
NOTE: I was prompted to enter credit card info to pay for the service, which on the surface looks much more expensive then Intuit was.  My idea is to sort this out later.

I am also having the exact same problem. I have called numerous times over the last few months with no one being able to help me.  I have not been able to run regular payroll and have been paying employees and contractors using Zelle based on previous pay since most are paid the same amount weekly.  It has been several months now and still nothing. I spent 4.5 hrs on 3 different phone calls yesterday.  No help. Was told that an expert would call back, but guess what?  The same rep called back and left a vm saying that I needed to us the Call Back option.  I have been doing that already for every phone call to them.  I started using Intuit via Bank of America back in 07/2013 and now I have no access to any of our files.  What is going on here?  There must be someone we can report this to.  A higher agency needs to intervene here because this is screwing a lot of businesses up.  I am going to be late paying payroll taxes/bills because of this mess.

Same experience here. I'm quitting quickbooks and going to ADP. Ridiculous!

April 1, 2022

This is a giant mess. My payroll taxes are due I can’t access payroll I just get a spinning cog when trying to upgrade.

I accidentally signed up for QuickBooks online accounting which I don’t need and I’ve already canceled.

This forced upgrade is a disaster.  I can’t even access my payroll to pay my payroll taxes that are due.

i've gone from free payroll for one person to not being  charged but I can't even upgrade

April 1, 2022

This isn't what I want you to experience with QuickBooks, TerriZamore.

Let me make it up to you by making sure this issue gets resolved.

To start, let's try upgrading payroll via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if this is a browser-related issue.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

If it does, let's clear the browser's cache. This removes its stored cache to ensure the program performs efficiently.

You can also use other supported browsers. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

In case the issue persists, I'd suggest contacting our QuickBooks Payroll Team. They have full access to your account and can check the cause. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue if necessary.

Additionally, I've added an article that'll help you pay state and federal payroll taxes online. This ensures all the taxes are paid: File Payroll Taxes and Forms in Online Payroll.

Please let us know if you'll need assistance in dealing with your payroll tasks, don't hesitate to get back on this thread. We're always here to help you.

I have tried 3 different browsers always the same result

I MAY HAVE CRACKED THE CODE

We have also had a terrible experience; one that is made worse by the fact that all of the "help", which just guides you to the receive-a-call-feature, doesn't help at all.  The service team simply has NOT been trained in this area of BofA transition to Quickbooks Online Payroll.  In an effort to help, they can lead you down a bunch of pathways that only waste time.

I've wasted more than 6 hours of my time plus the time of the QB service employees (6 hours of unnecessary payroll expense for Intuit)  because of the lack of information available about this specific issue.  This is the only reason I'm taking time to write this--to potentially save some poor souls from having to go through what we all have gone through.

HERE's WHAT I FOUND OUT AND WHAT WORKED FOR ME
1. We did NOT resolve it via the BofA interface.  That does not seem to work.
2. The BofA Intuit Online Payroll is not able to completely integrate with your current Quickbooks Online account.
3. So, during this transition, they automatically created a new account for you, which is a stand-alone Quickbooks Online Payroll account.
4. You have to find your new payroll account.
5. We found it this way (hopefully this works for you, too).
  a) Sign into your Quickbooks Online account

  b) Then sign out of your Quickbooks Online account
  c) After it signs you out, you should see a green Sign In button--do NOT click it yet
  d) Instead, click "Use a different user ID"
  e) It should then take you through a process of finding any other ID's that you have

  f) It may ask for your email, it may send you a code, etc.
  g) After a few verification steps, it should list other ID's that you have with Quickbooks.
  h) One of those ID's (in our case) was associated with our new Payroll Account.
  i) We identified the correct ID because it had a recent date as the last login date and it ALSO was a series of seemingly random numbers and letters (probably an internal, automatically generated number).
  j) Select the one that fits the above description, or simply try a few until you get the right one.

  k) It will try again to identify you by sending a code to your email or your phone.  If you are having trouble, you can try to reset your password.

  l) FINALLY! we saw (and hopefully you will, too) all of our payroll info which had been successfully transferred into this new Quickbooks Online Payroll account and everything was set up and all data transferred as it should have been.

A couple of notes:
For BofA customers, your will likely have a completely separate Quickbooks account for Payroll purposes.  You will be able to export the weekly/monthly payroll information to your original Quickbooks Online, just as you used to from BofA.

It's a fair bet that the above will not work for everyone.  Sorry about that.

If the email associated with your BofA account is different from the one you use for Qucikbooks Online, you will probably need to use the email associated with your BofA account for the steps starting with f), above.

I believe this problem, and resolution, primarily works for people who used BofA intuit Online Payroll and ALSO have a Quickbooks Online account.  I'm not sure if it will work with other situations.

Let me know if you have any success.

This got me to an online page that has no data on it. It's basically blank with the exception that I can access the "see all activity"

Any suggestion on what to do from this point is greatly appreciated

April 3, 2022

Are you able to provide a bit more info?

"It's basically blank with the exception that I can access the "see all activity" "
When you saw this blank page, did it look like you were in quickbooks, or did look like you were in some sort of intuit account management page, or in BofA, or something else?

When you access "see all activity" what is it showing you?  Is it your Quickbooks activity, payroll activity, blank, or something else?

Great posts.   Intuit created a standalone account of QuickBooks Online with ONLY the Payroll feature and a random user I’d.   Next step in this journey - now that some of us have two segregated Quickbooks accounts (one for company books, and one for Payroll)  -  is to find out how to merge the payroll only and standard QBO company instances so we don’t have to pay two monthly service fees.

LDBingham and TerriZamore

FIRST:  I tried to post the list (below) earlier today, but in typical Intuit fashion, it's not so user friendly.  I also wanted to post all of my screenshots, but I am unable.  I will try after this post.
SECOND:  My understanding is that there is no way to merge/combine your Quickbooks account with your separate Quickbooks Payroll account.  You can send the financial data into Quickbooks from Payroll just as you used to from BofA to Quickbooks, but it sounds like the two sets of software won't ever merge into 1.

NOTE: I think you are absolutely right on your criticism of Intuit's transition.  This is a case of "There is no there, there."  There's no way to reach someone who actually knows what's going on or who was personally involved in the Intuit transition.

Still, I do have a couple of ideas based on what actually did work for me (note that because of cookies etc, I can't 100% recreate what I did):
1. Go to https://accounts.intuit.com/
2. Click Login/Sign in at the top right

3. You should get to a page that at the top looks something like my 1st image.
4. Click "Use a Different User ID" (image attached)
5. You should see another Sing In Page (image attached).  Here, you should enter the info associated with your BofA account.  i.e. preferably your email, but could be phone.  Let's assume for now that you enter your email associated with your BofA account.
6. Click the blue "Sign In bar" (image attached).

7. You should now be on a page that has a box to enter your verification code (image attached)

8. In the meantime, Intuit should have sent a verification code to your email.
9. Enter the code in the box and click the blue "Continue" bar.
10.  This should take you to  a page that says "We Found Your Accounts" (image attached).
11. Below "We Found Your Accounts" should be radio buttons that correspond to different accounts and/or user names that you have had with various Intuit products (including QuickBooks, but it could be other Intuit products as well).
12. IMPORTANT:  one of the radio buttons should have a name that would have been automatically assigned during the transition.  The name will look silly, something like   ttyf_76-jjw89hkw65_9-yye etc.
13. Click that radio button (the one next to the silly looking user name.

14. At this point, you may get one more verification step.  NOTE: it may ask to verify your phone number.  You can skip that step.  It is not an authentication.  They just want to update your info.  So, you can click on "Skip for now"  (image attached).

15. After clicking skip for now, you should be lead to your new Quickbooks Payroll account, However, there may be one more verification step, OR you may even need to click Forgot Password, or Reset Password.  I am uncertain what exactly you will see at this point.  For me, if memory serves, it took me to my new payroll account.

PLEASE: reply to this post to let me know which steps work and which ones do not.  For example "Steps 1-5 worked as described, but on step 6 I saw_____ instead of _____.  I will do my best to troubleshoot with you.
