Intuit Removed Write Check/Enter Time Function for Manual Payroll

After speaking with at least 5 different service reps for over 4 hours, I was finally told that QB removed the function that grabs time for employees when writing a check to enter payroll manually.

We have a third party (Gusto) do payroll for us, and I used to write a check in QB with the employee job time so we could track job costing in our reports. When they "updated" it, they removed the Enter Time function.......Has anyone found a good work around for this? I attached an example of what I'm talking about.

Essentially their "fix" was that I purchase a payroll subscription so I can have that function back or manually enter all the line items from the weekly timesheet into the items tab on the check. Ridiculous that they remove functions when you buy a newer version. Gusto works so much better than QB payroll I don't want to go back. Ironically it will still work for old employees time, but not the new ones.

I use QB Pro Desktop 2021

As stated before, the time tracking feature is not working at all........Is there a way I can work around this?

Hi there,KME2.

I appreciate you for reaching out to us here on the Community page.

As mentioned by my colleague @Giovann_G, entering the time function in the Write Check screen isn't available anymore. You need to purchase a payroll subscription so you'll have that function back or manually enter all the line items from the weekly timesheet into the items tab on the check.

I can see how it would be useful to have this option to Enter time in the Write Check, I'd suggest sending feedback straight to our product developers/engineers to be considered in the future. They are constantly finding ways to improve our product and service to make QuickBooks work the way your business needs.

To send product feedback in QBDT:

  1. Go to Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Choose Send Feedback Online.
  3. Select Product Suggestion.
  4. Enter your product request/product suggestion.
  5. Click Send Feedback tab.

Let me know if you have any other QuickBooks questions, I'm always here to help. Have a wonderful day!

Hi there, @KME2

You may utilize the Time Tracking feature in QuickBooks Desktop to track your employees' hours.

Here's how to setup:

  1. Sign in as the Admin. Be sure to be in Single-user Mode.
  2. Go to the Edit menu. Then, select Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window, select Time & Expenses.
  4. Select the Company Preferences tab.
  5. For the Do You Track Time? option, select Yes.
  6. In the First Day of Work Week drop-down list, choose the day on which you start tracking time each week. (Note: The day you choose affects all weekly timesheets. For example, if you choose Sunday, your timesheets begin with Sunday.)
  7. Select Ok.

Once done, you can create a weekly or single timesheet. You can also create a report that shows timesheet data. Please refer to this link for more information: Create and print timesheets

I'm always here should you have any follow-up questions. Have a great day.

I double checked this, and my company settings already matched your recommendations. I am still unable to select Enter Time when trying to write a check. Thanks anyway 👍
