Question

Is anybody else having issues with mileage tracking on QB Self-Employed, recently? Thanks.

My mileage hasn't been tracking for the past couple weeks or so. I've been having to enter it manually. And yes, my location settings  for the app are set to "always". And auto-tracking is turned on.

Oftentimes, issues arise when the auto-tracking app is accidentally turned off. If you're using iOS, ensure to check every now and then if the app is tracking your miles. To do so, follow the steps outlined below:

 

  1. Open the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  2. Go to the Mileage menu.
  3. Select Auto-tracking.
  4. Choose Check mileage settings.

You can determine if you're good to go if the settings have a green check. But if you see an exclamation point (!), select it to open the settings page on your device to make adjustments.

 

Aside from that, make sure to update the app to the latest version to prevent issues along the way. You can also use Apple's steps to update your app.
 

  1. On your device, open the App Store.
  2. Select the Today tab, then select your profile.
  3. In the Available updates section, look for the QuickBooks Self-Employed app.
  4. If you see the option, select Update.

On the other hand, if you're using an Android, make sure your device tracks accurately by turning off the Wi-Fi setting before your trip. Your trip won't record correctly if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network while you're driving.

 

Secondly, you're device may have trouble tracking mileage in slow-moving traffic. Improve the accuracy of the mileage settings. Here's how:

 

  1. Click the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Mileage settings.
  4. To improve accuracy in slow-moving traffic, turn on the Track slow speed trips setting.
  5. To improve accuracy in recording addresses, turn on the Boost location accuracy setting.

I have checked all these things and it happened twice now for several days that QB didn’t track. This will create chaos when I do my taxes. I’ve relied on this app for several years now and never had that kind of issue before. Before, even if I got logged out or the app wasn’t open in the background it still tracked my miles. Now it doesn’t anymore.

Yep!  Reported the issue several months ago.  Intermittently stops tracking.  QB hasn’t fixed the issue.

My app stopped tracking completely. I had zero problems for 2 years and now it won't even track a trip if I tell it to start and when to stop. The trip never shows up to be categorized. I am getting no response from the company. Nothing has changed on my end. It is not in the tracking feature, it is in the displaying what was tracked. It is loses the data. This is a software issue not a phone issue.

  1. Select the Menu ☰ icon.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Mileage settings.
  4. To improve accuracy in slow-moving traffic, turn on the Track slow speed trips setting.
