Question

Is there a way to edit the pay period and pay date after a check has been created?

I accidentally entered a future pay period and incorrect pay date. It's supposed to be tomorrow. Also, is there a way to still pay the employees tomorrow because I did submit payroll before the 7pm cutoff time?

Hi, @daniel119. Yes, there's a way to edit the pay period and pay date and process your payroll again to pay your employees tomorrow or the closest day possible.

You can void the check. Then, edit the pay period and process the direct deposit payroll again. I can provide the details to accomplish this.

Since it appears that the direct deposit payroll has been processed, I'd recommend voiding the check in your QuickBooks Online (QBO), and then, contacting our Payroll Support for the next steps of the correction process. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Select the Paycheck list.
  3. Select the paycheck(s) you'd like to void, then select Void from the drop-down arrow beside the Print button.
  4. Select Yes.
  5. Contact our Payroll Support.

Next, edit the pay period and recreate the paycheck. Here's how:

  1. Go to Payroll, then Employees.
  2. Select your employee.
  3. From Employment details, select Edit.
  4. From the Pay schedule dropdown, select the pay schedule for the employee moving forward or choose + Add pay schedule.
  5. Fill out the appropriate fields. Then select Save.
  6. When you're done, click on Save.

For recreating the paycheck, please ensure recording it as Paper Check instead of Direct Deposit so the payroll payment isn't processed twice. For more details about when you can resubmit a direct deposit payroll, refer to this article: When to send your direct deposit payroll.
