Is there a way to either change a payroll item in quickbooks back to previous version or to see how it was previously entered?

Hello there, @Fuller1. Let me chime in on this thread and provide further details about the payroll you edited.

Accessing your previously changed payroll item isn't available in the program. However, you can restore the data before the item changes as mentioned by my colleague above. Ensure that you make a copy of your company before making any changes to have a save point in case of problems you may encounter.

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Restore a backup copy. Then, click Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Choose a location you can easily remember to save your backup. Keep in mind to include the .QBB after the name of the file. Then select Open.
  5. Select Save.

Additionally, you can refer to these articles to manage your payroll:

Hi there, @Fuller1. I appreciate you for posting to the Community concerning reverting payroll item setup in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

We're unable to revert a payroll item from its prior setup. However, we can restore a backup company file where you've saved the previous setup. Please know that doing this will change back your accounting data. This is usually used to aid any instances if ever you run into problems in managing your company.

Before we start, please make sure to save a copy of your company before taking any actions.

Refer to the steps below to begin restoring your backup file:

  1. Go to the File menu, and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Choose Restore a backup copy. Then, click Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. Once ready, select Save.

After that, you can take down the following details you may need to change your payroll item setup. Then, restore your latest backup and re-enter the following information.

Additionally, QuickBooks offers a variety of payroll reports. This will give you a more thorough picture of the gross pay, deductions, and tax data for your employee over a specific time frame. For a comprehensive list of available payroll reports and instructions on how to get them, please visit this article: Run payroll reports.

You can always post if you have more concerns about managing your paycheck or any QuickBooks-related matters. I’m just a post away, and take care!

Is there any way to see how a payroll item was set up previously. I have a payroll item that i edited, but not sure if it is 100% correct. I would like to see how it was set up by the previous admin. To make sure it is correct.

I can assist you in viewing your previous payroll item setup, Fuller1.

I'll help you double-check that you have set up your payroll items correctly to ensure your employees are paid accurately and on time. To view your payroll items, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Lists, then press Payroll Item List.
  2. Right-click the item and choose Edit Payroll Item.
  3. Change the info on each window as needed.
  4. Tap Finish.

I have attached some references you can use to correct or modify items on your paychecks if needed.
