Hi there, dkglave.

Thank you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. Let me discuss how SUI information works in QuickBooks Online. Then, provide troubleshooting steps to ensure that you can smoothly enter the specific percentage of the SUI.

States send out updated SUI rate notices toward the end of the year, or at the beginning of the new year. Whenever your SUI rate changes, you as an employer need to update it in payroll to keep your SUI tax liability accurate.

Then, please know that when updating the SUI info, you'll need to have Admin access to successfully update it. That said, it could be the reason why the program won't let you in for next year's state Unemployment rate which is less than 2 or .17%.

However, if you're already the Admin user and the issue persists, it might be the cache full of history and temp files that caused unexpected behaviors such as being unable to enter the Unemployment rate that you desired. I suggest logging in to your QuickBooks account using a private browser. This is to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue, and private browsing doesn't store local files or cache.

Use these keyboard shortcuts based on the browser you're using:

  • For Firefox or Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + P.
  • For Chrome, press Ctrl + Shift + N.
  • For Safari, hold down Command + Shift + N.

If it works in incognito, you'll have to clear the cache of your regular browser. This removes the history or log of sites so you can start with a clean slate. If the steps above didn't work, use another supported browser as an alternative.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to see steps on how you can run several payroll reports you can use to view useful information about your tax liability: Run payroll reports in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Keep me in the loop if you need further assistance managing your SUI info. Also, I appreciate it if you could provide any further details like the specific error you received while entering the SUI details. I’ll be around ready to help you, dkglave. Have a good one and keep safe!
