Local Withholdings early - otherwise we are penalized. Right now Quickbooks has us set up to file and pay at the end of the month. Help?

Our Company has to file and pay State and Local Withholdings by the 20th of each month. If we don't we incur penalties. Quickbooks has us set up to withdraw funds at the end of the month - how do I change this?

Hello there, @debidavey. I'd be glad to help you set up your company to file and pay taxes every 20th day of the month in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To do this, you can simply change your tax payment schedule for the current quarter in QBO if you haven't made any tax payments yet. I'll guide you on how:

  1. Navigate to the Settings menu and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Click Edit next to the federal or state you need to update.
  3. Then, from the How often do you pay your taxes? section, click Edit.
  4. Next, select your new schedule and effective date.
  5. Click Save when done.

That's it! You can perform the same process for a future quarter or year. For reference, please read this article: Change your payroll tax payment schedule.

However, if you need to change the schedule for the previous quarter, or for tax payments you've already made in the current quarter, you'll have to reach out to our Payroll support team for assistance.

Additionally, you can also set up your company to e-pay and e-file taxes so QBO will automatically pay and file them for you. For a detailed guide, please see this page: Set up e-file and e-pay in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

I'll include this helpful article that you can check to know more information about tax filing and deadlines: Payroll Filing and Deadlines.

I'll be always here ready to lend a hand if you have any other concerns about filing and paying your tax in QBO. Have a good one and keep safe.
